I highly recommend this enchanting opera about a cunning vixen which turns it into a colourful reflection on the highs and lows of life. Entwining dance and mime into the storytelling, Janacek blends folk-derived melodies with sophisticated, lushly orchestrated harmonies to create a personal and modern musical style. Conducted by Jakub Hrůša and directed by Melly Still at Glyndebourne.
Yes it was a particularly cold and wet English summer evening so I gave a divine, scarlet Beulah gown the perfect warm, contemporary twist by wearing a Warhol printed bespoke cashmere scarf showing my little Maltese dog's face on it. What fun...
